On Friday, October 10th we held the first meeting on the occasion of the UNIV Congress 2009 in Almaty. Irtysh Cultural Center promoted this information session about the International Congress which was attended by more than a dozen university students.
Professor Irina Sapronova (Philology Department, University Al-Farabi) introduced this year’s theme with a short lecture on the current state of the University in Kazakhstan and the role of university studies in our society, making particular emphasis on the importance of human and ethical training. In responding to questions, she instilled in her audience the responsibility of participating in educative structures as their way of influencing society, and of the need to be well-formed professionals who seek, not only their own interests, but also seek to serve their country.
